LOVE OUR CHILD AS YOU LOVE YOURS

Jo'burg child welfare

The Princess Alice Adoption Home provides residential care to about 30 babies and toddlers. It’s run by a team of 14 caregivers who work round-the-clock to provide the children with good quality care.

We also have two ‘secret weapons’ to ensure the little ones receive the one-on-one attention they need to thrive.

The first is the wonderful gogos in the Granny Programme; and the second is volunteers. These ladies devote hours of their time to the babies and children.

“We do whatever they need: we cuddle them, play with them, comfort them and love them,” says Lynn le Roy, one of the regular volunteers.

The volunteers’ efforts are rewarded when bonds are formed. “They start to recognise us and are delighted to see us. They reach out their hands when we walk in.”

Lynn visits the babies twice a week, for two to three hours at a time. “But I stay longer if I hear the tiny ones crying when it’s time to go. I’m here for the babies,” she says.

The PAAH needs volunteers like Lynn more than ever. Over the past three years, the pace of adoption has slowed. This means children spend longer in our care than is ideal – and we rely on volunteers and gogo’s to provide them with that loving human touch.

We thank all our volunteers for loving our children as you love yours.
